The Citadel

What is the citadel?

The vision and purpose

The Citadel is more than a project or a building – it is a movement! It is the rewiring of how we live life in a community that integrates faith, business, creativity and community. It is a prophetic, architectural space that gives people an opportunity to experience abundant life, belonging and creativity while doing the things they love doing most.

It is built on four key foundations:

  1. Sustainability: The Citadel is a 24/7 missional space where business, creativity, and community initiatives fund and sustain Kingdom work.
  2. Mission: It empowers believers to live out their faith daily, transforming ordinary life into extraordinary Kingdom impact.
  3. Platform: The Citadel activates every believer’s calling by providing the space and support for people to lead, create and serve.
  4. Unity: It brings people together in love, fostering deep connection, collaboration, and collective transformation – redefining the way we do community.

City life - The engine behind the vision

Founded by Paul & Beth Spooner, City Life NPO is the nonprofit arm that fuels social upliftment projects, supports ministries and NPOs, and enables tax-deductible donations for kingdom-building.

Fueled by City Life, Citygate Church and The Citadel are building a culture and developing a premises where faith, action & genuine love merge—empowering believers, uplifting communities, and expanding God’s Kingdom in every sphere of life.

Good things café & Co-work space

Good Things Café, which started in October of 2024, isn’t just a place for great coffee—it’s a vibrant, welcoming environment designed to reflect the heart of the Citadel: sustainability, creativity, unity and everyday Kingdom living.

Whether you’re working remotely, meeting with a client, taking a break with your kids, or just wanting to be in an atmosphere filled with life and purpose—this is your space. With fast Wi-Fi, outdoor work space, a play area for little ones, and an upstairs chill-and-connect zone, we are curating an environment that is highly practical for everyone.

More than a café, it’s a space to dream, build, belong and be a part of something bigger than yourself.

The building project

We’ve seen God do incredible things already—but we’re just getting started. The Citadel is a living vision, and this building is the foundation for something much bigger than bricks and walls. Every prayer, every donation, every bit of time given – it’s all part of a prophetic story unfolding right here in Glenwood.

Through the #GetYourHatOn campaign, we invite you to partner with us in faith by contributing to the ongoing building fund. By purchasing a yellow construction hat(for R300 or more!) and donating into the building fund, you’re not just supporting a fund or renovations—you’re investing in revival.

We’re already seeing momentum:

  • Lookout Park—the green space above the church—is being restored as a place of rest, recreation, and we dream of building a community mountain bike track for families and youth.
  • Our recording studio is being established as a creative hub for music, podcasts, and the arts—empowering voices and releasing Kingdom expression.
  • Essential building upgrades are underway to make the Citadel a more functional, beautiful space for all who gather here.
  • We are trusting God for the full repayment of the building, securing this place as a long-term home for ministry, creativity, and community impact.
